Multidisciplinary Approaches in Surgical Care

It is only a few weeks until our annual congress and there are, as in every year, educational opportunities for surgeons from all backgrounds, levels and subspecialties. I would like nevertheless to bring one particular session to the spotlight.

ASGBI has long championed a multidisciplinary approach to surgical care, recognising that optimal patient outcomes rely on collaboration across specialties. The Excellence & Innovation in Perioperative Care session embodies this ethos, bringing together experts to discuss critical aspects of perioperative management. For 90 minutes, experts will cover key topics such as the role of palliative care in non-cancer and emergency surgery, insights from the SNAP-3 study on frailty and delirium, and the new CPOC perioperative care curriculum.

This session will also highlight essential decision-making in ICU and introduce the Opioid Stewardship Programme - an important initiative in responsible pain management. With contributions from leading clinicians in their fields, this discussion promises to be both insightful and impactful.

I personally have a very strong interest in surgical palliative care. Such societies and interest groups have developed in the USA in the last few years.  ASGBI can lead the way in the UK, ensuring that our resident and consultant colleagues are appropriately educated and informed about the guidelines and literature around this very important topic .

I encourage you to attend and engage with these expert-led conversations, strengthening the collaborative approach to surgical care. Don’t miss out—register now and take advantage of our early bird rates, available until April 14th!
