You are responsible for keeping your personal information up to date with the ASGBI (Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland). If you have been given a password for our online services, please do not share it with anyone else. By providing your contact details, including postal address, email, or phone number, you agree that we may use them to manage your membership and share information about ASGBI activities that may interest you. We may contact you by post, email, or telephone, as appropriate.
In line with GDPR, you can change your communication preferences or withdraw consent at any time. Please note that certain legal communications required by Company Law will still be sent if you hold relevant member obligations. Membership Contract
Submitting your application online, by phone, or by email is considered an offer to join ASGBI. When we accept your application, a legally binding membership contract is formed. Renewal of your membership and payment of fees confirms your ongoing acceptance of this contract. Membership rights and obligations cannot be transferred to another person.
Online Applications
After submitting an online application, you will either see a confirmation page or receive an email acknowledging your submission. This does not mean your application has been accepted. Applications are usually processed within seven working days. Membership is officially accepted when payment and all required documents have been received, and your membership grade has been approved.
Payments
If you are using a credit or debit card that is not your own, you must have the cardholder’s permission before submitting payment. By submitting payment, you confirm that this permission has been obtained.
Payment by direct debit is the simplest and most convenient option and is protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee. Details of this guarantee can be found here: Direct Debit Guarantee.
Membership Fee Changes
We will notify members at least 30 days before any changes to subscription rates approved at the Annual General Meeting.
Payment Disputes
If you believe you have overpaid or an error has occurred, please contact us immediately. Refunds will be processed promptly in accordance with the Direct Debit Guarantee.
Agreement to Terms
By using ASGBI services, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. Use of specific services may also be subject to additional rules or guidelines. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use our services.
Changes to Terms
ASGBI may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. Any significant changes will be communicated by email or post at least 30 days before they take effect. Updates to our Privacy Policy will be posted on our website 30 days prior to implementation. If we change how we use personal data, affected members will be notified directly. We recommend reviewing this page regularly.
Termination
When your membership ends, we will handle your personal data securely in line with GDPR and our Privacy Policy, ensuring appropriate deletion or retention.
Cancellations
Membership is an annual rolling agreement that automatically renews each year. You will receive a renewal notice in advance, outlining your right to cancel and any changes to your payment method. To cancel, you must inform us in writing (email or letter) at least ten working days before your membership anniversary. Cancellations over the phone are not accepted. Membership will lapse if payment is not received within four months of the renewal date.
Refunds
A refund is only available if the cancellation notice requirements are met. For cancellations made within the first or second month of your membership, a refund may be provided, subject to a 10% administration fee. After the second month, no refunds are available. For members paying by Direct Debit, refunds will be processed through your bank or building society.
Please allow several working days for the refund to appear in your account, depending on your financial institution’s processing times.
