We hope all our members, colleagues and friends have enjoyed a well-deserved summer break. As the new academic year begins, ASGBI headquarters are back in full swing, already turning our attention towards the planning and preparation for the 2026 International Surgical Congress in Brighton from 12th to 14th May. It promises to be another milestone meeting, continuing our mission to innovate, inspire surgeons to get involved and belong to your association.  As always, we will deliver innovation for the benefit of patients, surgeons, and the wider healthcare community.
In the more immediate future, we are delighted to highlight two major upcoming educational opportunities. On Friday 12th September, ASGBI will host the Precision in Colorectal Surgery Webinar. This session will showcase the latest advances and best practice in colorectal surgery, offering insights from leading experts and practical take-home messages for surgeons at every stage of their career. We encourage all members to register and take advantage of this online opportunity to remain at the cutting edge of surgical practice.
Following this, on Wednesday 12th November, we look forward to welcoming you to our Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Symposium. This meeting will provide a focused update on modern EGS practice, addressing the evolving challenges and innovations in this vital field. We remind members to secure their study leave in advance to ensure they can join us for what promises to be a fantastic day of learning, networking, and professional development. Also for Residents, don’t forget the Moynihan Academy Trauma & EGS Masterclass the following day, which promises to be a fantastic day of workshops, viva practice and cutting edge talks from leaders in the field.
The year ahead is rich with opportunities to connect, learn, and engage. We are proud of the diverse and dynamic programme of events that ASGBI continues to deliver for its members. Whether online or in person, these meetings ensure that we remain united as a community, committed to excellence and innovation in surgical care. We look forward to sharing this journey with you in the months ahead.
All my best wishes,
Mr Christian Macutkiewicz
President, ASGBI
