There has never been a better time to get involved with the running of our association and belonging to a great team who I am so fortunate to work with.  We have two Director role vacancies, Education and Training, and Trauma. These are fantastic opportunities to become a Director on our Executive Committee to shape the society and have input into our congress and educational portfolio.
If being a Director is a bit of a big step, then we have so many committees who are now recruiting for new members, these are Education & Training, EGS, Trauma, EDI and Research.  Think of these committees as dipping your toes into the ASGBI leadership and if you enjoy it then this could be a stepping stone to bigger roles within the Executive. The deadline for the Director roles is 24th February and for the committee roles it’s 27th February so please come and join us. There are so many opportunities for you to belong!
We are all currently scoring the 592 abstract submissions for our Edinburgh congress. It is so wonderful to see so many high quality abstract submissions and our top scorers will be shortlisted for the NELA, BJS and Moynihan prize sessions. Our short papers, E-posters and prize paper sessions are such important components of our congress where Residents can showcase all their hard work and experience presenting them at an international congress.
To celebrate presenting your work in our congress we have so many exciting and wonderful social events during our congress; from our informal impromptu karaoke event which has become infamous after our congress in Belfast, to our grand and exciting Gala Dinner at Mansfield Traquair which is described as Edinburgh’s Sistine Chapel and was designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson and completed in 1895.
Finally I want to share with you all that my plans to rekindle the Regional ASGBI meetings are already underway with a South West meeting and Welsh meeting already in the pipeline. This is really exciting for me to re-engage with individual regions, support local meetings and helping you all to feel like you belong to our wonderful surgical family.
