ASGBI is delighted to announce its role as a partner for the upcoming Future of Surgery Festival, hosted by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Taking place in Birmingham this April, the festival is a UK-first celebration of surgery, covering innovation, training, global surgery and wellbeing.
General surgery sits at the intersection of almost every other specialty. The Festival brings together pioneering leaders like Lord Ara Darzi, Co-Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation, Imperial College London and Nuha Yassin, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and RCS England Council Member. These trailblazers will share insights into the voices redefining what is possible in both the operating room and the training environment.
We often hear about "innovation" as a buzzword, but the Festival aims to provide practical solutions. Sessions on Surgical Genomics 101 with Dame Sue Hill, Chief Scientific Officer for England and Senior Responsible Officer for Genomics, NHS England, will explain how genomic medicine is moving into everyday surgical pathways, enabling more precise diagnoses for our patients. Meanwhile, sessions on Extended Reality (XR) with Professor Jag Dhanda, will show how we can revolutionise surgical training, a key concern for any lead clinician or educational supervisor.
The Festival is built by and for the surgical community and beyond. Between sessions, visit the Poster Village to see the latest research or the Professional Development Hub for bespoke career-advancing workshops. Accredited for 11+ CPD points, this is an event you cannot afford to miss.
Surgery is better when we work together. We encourageall ASGBI members to invite their colleagues to join the debate in Birmingham.
Help shape what’s next for the profession. We hope tosee you there.
