Guy Blackshaw was born and brought up in Stoke-on-Trent. He studied and trained in Cardiff before completing his general surgical training in Wales. He took up a consultant post in August 2009 at the University Hospital of Wales.
His research explored factors affecting outcomes in the management of stomach cancer and was awarded a Doctorate for this work from Cardiff University.
His interests include Upper GI cancer resection for oesophageal and gastric cancer, laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, laparoscopic biliary surgery and all other UGI surgery for both benign and malignant conditions.
He is also involved in surgical training and has been the college tutor at the University Hospital of Wales for the past 3 years and continues in this role. He is also a member of the Surgical Training Committee.
Mr Jonathan Barry MCh FRCS
Consultant Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgeon
Jon Barry is a Consultant Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgeon at the Welsh Institute of Metabolic and Obesity Surgery, Morriston Hospital, Swansea.
Mr Barry qualified in 1996 from the University of Wales College of Medicine and completed his higher surgical training in Wales followed by a fellowship in Bariatric Surgery in Liverpool. He has in addition received further training in Gothenburg and Bruges.
Mr Barry was appointed to the surgical unit in Morriston in 2009. His main interest is in all aspects of the surgery for morbid obesity particularly revisional surgery and the metabolic effects of surgery.
