The Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, The University of Edinburgh and The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh are pleased to announce the first winners of bursaries awarded to top performing ASGBI affiliate members in the Year 1 of the ChM in General Surgery programme.

Jai Allu, David Neely and Maung MSL Aye will each receive £500 in recognition of their performance in the first year of the programme.

Jai Allu

"I feel humbled to be a recipient of the ASGBI bursary. The ChM course has provided me with insights towards the research element of surgical studies along with opening my horizons to the diverse experience of my fellow students. I feel privileged to be a part of a college with such rich history and respect towards continuing surgical education."

Maung MSL Aye

"It was a very pleasant surprise to receive the ASGBI bursary following my first year of the ChM programme. I have found my studies in the programme to be both enjoyable and invigorating. The discussions in those Topics with my peers and tutors were particularly rewarding and clinically very relevant. This recognition by the ASGBI is very much appreciated."

The Master of Surgery Programme is run jointly by the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, University of Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Aligned with the ISCP curriculum, the course supports surgical trainees in their preparation for the intercollegiate FRCS (Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons) examination, whilst also providing an academic qualification for those in run-through training.

The ASGBI officially accredited the programme in 2011 as it was impressed by the high standard of the flexible, advanced training of the programme, linked with an academic degree which follows the intercollegiate fellowship examinations curriculum.
