Mr John Moorehead
John Moorehead qualified at the Queens University of Belfast in 1978 and obtained his FRCS (Ed) in 1982. He gained his MD for colorectal cancer research in 1986 and for this was also awarded the Sir Richard Havelock-Charles Scholarship and Gold Medal by Queen’s University. Following this he spent one year working with Professor John Wong in the Queen Mary Hospital and the University of Hong Kong.
In 1989 he was appointed Senior Lecturer in Surgery at the Queens University of Belfast working with Professor Brian Rowlands. At the same time he was appointed Director of the N.Ireland Colorectal Cancer Register. In 1992 he was appointed to his current post as a colorectal surgeon in the Ulster Hospital Belfast and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queens University. In this present post he has held the positions of Clinical Director for Cancer Services, Elective Care Reform and General Surgery. He is President elect of the Irish Association of Coloproctology and a member of the Management Board of the Irish Society of Gastroenterology.
For the last sixteen years he has taught on surgical skills courses in the UK and overseas. He was elected to the Council of the Association in 2006 and in 2010 was appointed as Honorary Secretary and Director of Operations of the Association. At the end of 2012 he was elected to the position of Vice-President of the Association for the period 2013 and 2014 and President for 2015 and 2016.
