We are delighted to announce the participation of a number of prestigious speakers at the 2007 Annual Scientific Meeting in Manchester. Sir Liam Donaldson,
the Chief Medical Officer, will deliver the Opening Address on Wednesday 18th April and there will be local contributions from Dame Nancy Rothwell, Vice-
President for Research at the University of Manchester, who will talk on the NHS/University Interface and Professor Raymond Tallis, who will address the
problems of an ageing population. Dr Edward M. Copeland III, the President of the American College of Surgeons, will deliver the Helen Rollason Lecture on ‘The
Multidisciplinary Management of Rectal Cancer’.
In addition, Professor Ken Boffard, our 2007 BJS Travelling Fellow, will give his report on the UK approach to Emergency General Surgery and Trauma and the
lessons to be learnt from other international models of care for the critically ill patient, whilst Dr John Clarke from Philadelphia will share lessons from the
Pennsylvania ‘Near Miss’ Programme in the USA.
Many of the symposia will focus on pre and post-operative care, enhanced recovery, training, management and reconfiguration of services rather than
traditional issues. A host of specialist associations will participate and most sessions will have multidisciplinary appeal to encourage cross-fertilization of ideas
across specialty boundaries.
Please note that the tick symbol on the provisional programme indicates that there is more information available about a session.
Please note that this programme is provisional and will be updated regularly. Please continue to check the website for updates.
