2012 International Bursaries are now available, apply today

A number of International Bursaries are available to provide support for international surgical trainees from poorly resourced countries in the development of their training by providing the possibility of spending two days in a UK hospital and attending the 2012 International Surgical Congress of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

The Association’s 2012 International Surgical Congress will be entitled ‘Expertise & Excellence’. The Congress will take place in Liverpool from Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th May 2012 and will be held at the BT Convention Centre (or ACC).

Last Year’s Congress which took place in Bournemouth 11th-13th May. Entitled ‘21st Century Surgery’, the theme aimed to look at surgery past the current economic environment. The meeting was deemed a great success with attendee figures reaching almost 1,800.

Venue

The theme of the 2012 Congress will be ‘Expertise & Excellence’. It aims to look at improving surgical technique and how to achieve best practise, many of the current political issues which are influencing all of our working lives will be debated and discussed. In addition we will try and bring to you the most recent innovations in surgical techniques and instrumentation.

There will be the usual major scientific sessions and a plenary Moynihan Prize short paper session, in addition to invited lectures from a range of some of the most influential surgeons in the UK and abroad. Symposia will cover topics such as ‘Pushing the Boundaries of Surgical Technique’, ‘Burnout and the Stress of Surgery’, ‘Surgery in the Elderly’, and ‘Blunt Abdominal Trauma and the general surgeon’. The generic theme to the meeting will continue and there will be ample opportunity for informed debate and discussion.

There will be a number of short paper and e-poster sessions taking place throughout the Congress. Guidelines and submission details for abstracts can be found here. Please be aware that submission of abstracts will at midnight on Friday 6th January 2012.
