Confirmed Speaker: Lord David Owen

We are delighted to announce that the Rt Hon Lord David Owen will address the Congress on the subject of his latest book ‘In Sickness and Power’ at 12pm on Wednesday 14th April 2010 and later that day will formally open the Congress during the Corporate Patrons’ Reception in the Industry Exhibition.

A Member of Parliament for Plymouth for 26 years from 1966-92, Lord Owen was one of the “Gang of Four” and co-founder of the Social Democratic Party established in 1981 and its Leader from 1983-90. Before entering politics, Lord Owen studied medicine at Cambridge and did his clinical training at St Thomas’s Hospital. Long fascinated with the inter-relationship between politics and medicine, he will talk on his unique study of illness in Heads of Government during the last 100 years and the influence of their medical advisers.
