I qualified in 1995 from University College Dublin, Ireland. I did my basic surgical training in Galway before moving to Beaumont hospital Dublin and undertaking an MD Thesis in oesophageal cancer. Subsequently I did my higher surgical training in general and vascular surgery in the NHS in the West Midlands Deanery then post fellow training in the Liverpool vascular unit.  I was appointed consultant surgeon to the Western Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland in 2009 specialising in general surgery and minimally invasive venous and renal access surgery. I remained there until 2020 before moving back home to the Republic of Ireland in Wexford after I was appointed to surgical unit there as a consultant general surgeon. My special areas of interest are emergency general surgery including acute gallbladder surgery and minimally invasive venous surgery and renal access surgery. I also have a passion for undergraduate medical teaching and whilst in Northern Ireland established with the RCSI an undergraduate academy for medical students in their third and final years.
