Ireland Region

Regional representative:
Professor Pierce Grace
I am a general and vascular surgeon based at the Midwestern Regional Hospitals and St John’s Hospital, Limerick where I have been a consultant since 1996. I was elected ASGBI Regional representative for the Republic of Ireland in 2009 for a four-year term. I will demit office in 2013.
My role is to act as your representative and be a conduit between the Irish members and the Council of the ASGBI. I sit on Council and am keen to represent your views, concerns and comments directly to them. The ASGBI is a powerful professional group of surgeons whose views on all aspects of surgery influence government policy and help set standards for the provision of surgery in these islands. We are in a time of great change and it is important that the surgical community influences such change and ensures the delivery of the best surgical care possible to the patients in our communities. It is also imperative that we train young doctors to become highly professional surgeons and that we ensure the training systems achieve that goal. The ASGBI is an important voice in achieving these ideals and I urge you to support the association and have your views heard.
