John Wiley & Sons Ltd, Audio Visual Prize
The annual competition for the best video or DVD has been generously sponsored by John Wiley & Sons Ltd. There will be two categories of award:

Entries produced “in-house” by a consultant surgeon in association with his/her department of medical illustration.
Entries produced more “commercially” by a consultant surgeon with external technical or financial assistance.

The winner in each category will receive a plaque and a cash prize of £300.

Presenters are asked to note that the Association may reserve the right to allow the Surgical Royal Colleges to catalogue and manage the selection in their libraries.

Entries must be of general surgical interest, suitable for an audience of consultants and higher surgical trainees and may include topic presentations as well as operative surgery. Commentaries must be in English, and entries must be on SVHS format videotape or DVD and be no longer than 10 minutes duration. Any film that lasts longer than 10 minutes will not be accepted.

Entries will be judged according to surgical interest, teaching value and technical merit. Those accepted will be shown at the Annual Meeting where a presenter should be available for questions. A two minute discussion will follow each presentation. A list of equipment used for the production must accompany each entry, together with full names and qualifications of those most involved in the making of the videotape (maximum four names). The Association reserves the right to show or not show any entry.
