Make no mistake; the leadership role of clinicians in our wonderful new NHS is under threat. Managers, administrators and medical staff can all suffer from role confusion in this important area, to the detriment of working relationships and ultimately patient care. All of us, whether we are directing a small clinical or academic team, acting as lead clinician, clinical director or particularly at the lofty heights of medical director have a leadership role. It is surely incumbent upon us therefore to discharge these responsibilities competently and yet few of us will have had specific training in these skills. Frank Smith and Simon Raimes are experienced tutors in this important domain and will offer insights into leadership that will help all, even the natural born leaders among us, to improve. This is a course that will pull no punches, is based on clinical practice and comes highly recommended.
